Who is Set for School?

Set for School was founded by two sisters, both experienced educators, who saw the same thing from different sides of the classroom door.

Susan has spent over 20 years in early childhood education, watching children grow, play and find their confidence. Emma welcomed those same children into primary school classrooms, seeing firsthand who thrived and who struggled. Together, they noticed something important: the children who succeeded weren't just academically prepared, they were confident, capable and genuinely excited to learn.

That shared insight became Set for School, an educator lead program that prepares children for school the way it actually needs to happen: as a whole child, not just a report card.

Why we started Set for School

It started with a simple observation, too many children were arriving at school academically prepared but emotionally unprepared. They could recite the alphabet but didn't know how to keep trying when things were hard, manage a big feeling or ask for help.

Susan and Emma knew they had to be a better way. What began as a passion project quickly grew through word of mouth, because parents felt it too. Getting a child ready for school isn't just about letters and numbers. It's about helping them feel settled, capable, and genuinely ready for the adventure ahead.

Set for School exists to make that kind of whole child preparation accessible to more families, built by people who've been on both sides of the classroom door.

Whole Child Development

School readiness isnt just academic. It's social, emotional, practical and personal. It's a child who can manage a big feeling, make a new friend, put their bag away and ask for help when they need it.

What is school readiness?

School readiness is so much more than knowing your ABC's.

A child who is truly ready for school can manage the full school day, giving tricky activities a go, navigating friendships, coping with new routines, and bouncing back when things dont go to plan. They can follow instructions, ask for help, and feel settled even when mum or dad isn't there.

Our school readiness programs develop children across all four areas that actually matter in the classroom:

Academic skills: early literacy and numeracy, listening, and following instructions.

Social skills: making friends, taking turns, and working alongside others.

Emotional skills: managing big feelings, building resilience, and developing confidence.

Practical skills: independence with routines, belongings, and everyday tasks.

Led by experienced teachers in small groups, our sessions give children the skills and confidence to walk through the school gate and genuinely thrive.

What is K-6 tutoring?

Every child learns differently and sometimes the pace of a busy classroom means gaps can quietly appear before anyone notices.

Our K-6 tutoring is designed to close those gaps before they widen, in a small group setting or one on one sessions where your child gets the individual attention and encouragement they need.

Led by qualified teachers who understand how children actually learn, our sessions build on what your child already knows and gently strengthens the areas where they are finding things hard. We work on academic skills alongside confidence, because a child who believes they can do it will try harder and go further.

Whether your child is falling a little behind, needs some extra support through a tricky patch, or simply benefits from consistency and encouragement outside the classroom, we are here to help them catch up, keep up, and feel good about learning again.

What happens during our holiday program?

Our holiday programs run across selected school holidays throughout the year, a wonderful way to keep momentum going, get a head start, or simply keep little minds engaged during the break.

Run during school holidays, these small group sessions are led by experienced teachers and designed to feel engaging rather than like extra school. Children build skills across literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning, all through activities that are age appropriate, hands on and genuinely fun.

For school readiness families, holiday programs are a great opportunity to introduce your child to a group learning environment before the big day arrives. For K-6 students, it's a chance to consolidate skills, address gaps, and build confidence while keeping their brain switched on over the break.

Sessions are intentionally small so every child gets seen, supported, and set up to succeed.
